At our Regain Function Medicine & Aesthetics locations in Leawood and Lawrence, KS, we are proud to offer a painless skin-perfecting treatment; laser hair removal. This treatment process can help men and women achieve smoother, hair-free skin in just a few sessions.
Laser Hair Removal
At Regain Function Medicine & Aesthetics, we use the Motus AY laser system to perform our hair removal treatments. This device has a dual laser combination: an Alexandrite and a Yag.
The benefit of this innovative system is that it can treat the whole Fitzpatrick scale of skin types. Unlike many laser hair removal treatment devices, certain skin types and tones won’t be excluded from treatment but instead can safely schedule treatments and expect to achieve their desired results.
How Does It Work?
The Motus AY laser device uses advanced technology that can permanently remove hair from different areas of the body through pain-free treatments in as little as six sessions. Hair follicles follow a three-cycle growth phage: antigen, telogen, and catagen. In order for the laser to effectively destroy the hair follicle, that follicle must be in the active growth stage, also known as the antigen phase.
For that reason, multiple treatments with several weeks between each will allow us to effectively eliminate all of the hair in your treatment area. During the treatment, the laser energy will be attracted to the pigment within the hair follicle, heat it, and destroy it. It will no longer grow hair, and you’ll be able to enjoy permanent hair-free results.
What Areas Can It Treat?
We can use the Motus AY laser device to eliminate unwanted hair on all skin types. However, it’s important to note that certain hair colors are resistant to the treatment since they don’t contain melanin, and therefore, the laser cannot target and destroy the follicle. These colors include red, gray, and white hair.
The Treatment Process
Preparing for Your Treatment
Once we confirm that you are a good candidate for laser hair removal, we will schedule your appointment. We asked that patients shower and shave the planned treatment areas before their appointment. We also ask that patients refrain from applying any topical solutions to the treatment area and avoid getting a tan or applying self-tanner before the treatment.
Creating Your Treatment Plan
Once we confirm that this treatment is right for you, we will create a treatment plan based on your hair type and density and the number of areas you want to treat. That way, we can adequately destroy the hair follicles in all of your desired treatment areas as efficiently as possible. You can treat multiple areas during a single treatment to accelerate your results.
When you arrive at your appointment, we may ask you to remove any jewelry and any deodorants, lotions, or creams in the planned treatment area. Our laser technician will mark your treatment area and begin the treatment process by removing hair from 4 x 4 sections per our treatment protocol.
This process ensures that we adequately target all the active hair follicles in your desired treatment area. You can expect a pain-free treatment with zero discomfort. We can adjust the device accordingly to tailor treatments to your skin and hair type, increasing your comfort and the effectiveness of the process.
Most patients notice the most significant reduction in the amount and volume of hair in their treatment area by the third session. After each session, you will continue to see improvements in the treatment area. We offer maintenance treatments at a 30% discount, so if you need any additional treatments, you can schedule them after you complete your initial package.
After your treatment is over, you’ll need to avoid excess sun exposure and ensure that if you are exposed to the sun, you wear quality sunscreen to protect your treatment areas from sun damage, as your skin will be more sensitive to the sun post-treatment. After your treatment, you can resume most of your normal activities and even wear makeup after 24 hours.
We recommend that patients use Calming Cream by Epionce after treatment and IMAGE MD Clinical SPF 50. You can and should keep shaving the area between treatments, but avoid tweezing, waxing, and the use of depilatory creams, as well as topical products containing harsh chemicals and exfoliants.
Am I a Candidate?
If you’ve always wanted to schedule laser hair removal treatments to address unwanted hair in one or more areas of your face or body, you may be a good candidate for this treatment.
We will schedule an initial pre-treatment consultation to evaluate your desired treatment areas as well as your hair color, volume, and thickness so that we can create your treatment plan accordingly. We will also provide you with pre-treatment and post-care instructions so that you can take the necessary steps to ensure the best results.
Perfect Your Skin With Laser Hair Removal
Don’t spend any more time or money than you already have on at-home hair removal processes and devices. Instead, invest in a treatment that will give you smoother skin and make you feel more confident in your appearance long-term.

Laser Hair Removal is a treatment to permanently destroy hair follicles and reduce overall hair growth.
How does Laser Hair Removal work?
The Motus AY Laser Hair Removal uses a dual in-motion, pain-free technology that permanently removes hair in as little as 6 treatments! All hair has 3 cycles, (antigen/ telogen/ catagen) the hair must be in its “growth phase” (antigen cycle) in order for the follicle to be destroyed by the laser. Therefore, we recommend multiple treatments, spaced far enough apart to reach all cycles of growth.

Do I need to do anything before my first appointment?
Please shower and shave the area(s) prior to your appointment. Do not apply any lotions or creams to the skin. Be sure you are not actively tan, or wearing a self-tanner prior to the treatment, or you may be asked to reschedule the procedure.
What can I expect at my first appointment?
Your Provider will review your recent medical history and current medications prior to your treatment. You may be asked to disrobe or remove any jewelry or topical creams, lotions, or deodorants. The area will be evaluated and marked by your Laser Provider. The treatment will be preformed in 4×4 sections to ensure all areas are fully treated according to protocol.
Is there anything I need to do after my appointment, or any products I should or shouldn’t use?
Following your laser hair removal treatment, we recommend using the Calming Cream by Epionce, to ensure your skin is well hydrated, protected, and reduce any mild skin reactions. You may continue shaving the area(s) in between session. Please do not tweeze or pull out any hairs, as this may affect the hair cycles and reduce your results.
If skin is exposed to the sun, apply IMAGE MD Clinical SPF 50 to the area. This formulation ensures a high level of active physical sunblock to provide the best protection to your skin during your series of treatments. Avoid harsh chemicals, exfoliants and direct sun exposures for one week prior to and following your appointment.
Do I just keep shaving the hair?
Yes, please continue to shave the area(s) after and between treatments. DO NOT tweeze, wax, or use depilatory creams before or between treatments as this may affect the hair cycles and reduce your results.
Can I do LHR in the summertime?
It is safe to do Laser Hair Removal during the summer if you continue to protect your skin using SPF (Recommended: IMAGE MD Clinical SPF 50) before and after your treatments, do not have an active tan, or sunburn.
I have a special event coming up, should I still do Laser Hair Removal?
Laser Hair Removal will not affect your skin negatively with the cooling in motion technology offered by our device, the Motus AY. Make up can be worn 24 hours following a treatment and you can return to your normal activities.
What kind of Laser do you use?
Regain uses the Motus AY, a dual laser combination- Alexandrite and a Yag- which is safe and effective for all skin types.
Why should I come to Regain for Laser Hair Removal?
As a Cartessa Center of Excellence, REGAIN hosts the latest technology and advanced laser treatments. Our devices are FDA approved, and deliver proven results with excellent patient safety and satisfaction ratings. Regain is the first in the Kansas City area to offer the Motus AY for laser hair removal, pigmentation removal, and vascular treatments.
I have already had laser treatments, how many more will I need to be hair free?
Your Provider will review your current results and provide a treatment plan based on your hair type, density, and amount in the area. It is best to treat laser hair removal in multiple sessions to achieve maximum permanent reduction.
Will taking hormones mean the hair will not go away?
Laser Hair Removal permanently destroys the hair follicles. Once the follicle is deactivated, it will never regrow, however hormones can generate new hair growth in places it has never appeared before. REGAIN offers maintenance treatments at 30% off following your initial package to offer additional treatments to satisfy reduction and any additional hair cycles. Laser Hair Removal is the best option to permanently decrease the amount of hair generated in an area and can be maintained long term with fewer treatments spaced at longer intervals.
